THE TRUTH ABOUT ASHES

It is little known in the public eye that human ashes are notably toxic for the eco-system.  The main misconception is that cremated remains are ashes are in fact, more like fossils than ashes. So what are the ashes?
Following a cremation, the bones are raked out of the cremator and crushed into fine particles in a machine called a Cremulator. It is these fine particles that are returned to you in an urn or box and commonly referred to as ashes.

Research conducted by Verde Products Inc shows that cremated remains are made up primarily of

Nitrogen (N),
Phosphorus (P)
Potassium (K)
Calcium (Ca)
Magnesium (Mg)
Sulphur (S),
Sodium (Na).

All of these elements are essential for plant and microbial life, however the cremation process stops natural degradation by removing all organic matter and bacteria from the bone. The result of this is that the bone becomes stable and do not change or disappear. This is fine if one wants to keep these to remain connected with one you love but, ‘what to do with the ashes?’ is a common question and increasing problem.

It is a deeply rooted human instinct to wish to return the earth. Scattering ashes in a favourite spot, burying or planting the ashes with a favoured bush or tree is a beautiful, poignant and meaningful gesture however, the reality of cremated remains interacting with the environment is more complex and damaging than is commonly known.
The probiotic potential of elements found in cremated remains is eliminated because of the toxic level of sodium (200 to 2000 times greater than is beneficial) and a highly alkaline pH of 11.8. The pH of most soils ranges between 5 and 8. Such chemical properties prevent the natural agricultural nutrients within the bone from becoming active in the environment. The result of this is that anything planted as little to no chance of survival and surrounding plant life does not thrive and the remains form a solid, non-nutritional mass, disrupting the ecosystem’s natural functionality.

On a personal level, seeing your much love memorial die can be heartbreaking all over again. On a wider level, there are close to 600,000 cremations a year just here in the UK. If buried or scattered on land or at sea that is a lot of ashes damaging the already fragile environment.

Always seeking more sustainable solutions the incredible team at behind RTN soil have created the only natural organic solution to negate this issue with a beautiful and positive effect.  This organic soil blend, similar a nutrition rich compost has been created to mix with cremated remains, neutralising and composting the ashes so they naturally return to nature.
