Fiona was a young, deeply loved mum with an abundant and eclectic mix of family and friends. It was important to her family that her ceremony was honest and inclusive, true to who she was. A natural burial ground was the perfect setting: gentle, with a sense of freedom and no restriction of time or beliefs and a beautiful place for her children to visit whenever they wished.
Within the glass pavilion overlooking the wild meadows and woodlands family and friends spoke in personal tribute. Favourite pop songs were played and sung. The Lord’s Prayer was recited to respect and help Fiona’s parents through their goodbyes, before we all joined in procession to her graveside. Fiona’s coffin was carried on a rustic cart led by the slow and steady pace of a strong farm horse. Each guest followed with a purple balloon in hand. A joyous, gentle parade created to leave a positive memory for all those present. Departing wishes and kisses were expressed in a showering of petals into her grave.
Fiona’s closest friends remained graveside to conduct a short Pagan ceremony to bid farewell and send their dear friend in the way personal and true to the Fiona they loved. An incredible, powerful, kind ceremony from beginning to end: Respectful, inclusive, positive and child friendly.
A balloon procession led by ponies included and engaged the children. This worked wonders at keeping the family connected and together for this sad occasion.
Immediate friends were given time and space in the open field to offer a short Pagan ritual as was their way with their dear friend before we gathered as one to say goodbye.
