I’m delighted to have started the year back at The Great Imaging. Hosted @hyphastudios Stratford curated by the excellent Deborah Curtis (House of Fairy Tales) the weekend concluded a program of talks, discussions, workshops and film as we’re all encourage to think and be #greener #wiser #fairer
This relaxed forum provided a fresh and unique space for provocative conversations and education across many areas we as a society need to address.
It was a privilege to be a part of discussing all that sits close to my heart and my working practice: The dichotomy of death, socially and environmentally.
How do the activities of the funeral industry fit within the universal urgency of the environment?
Whilst Technology is providing new ways for more sustainable exits – although still not available in the mainstream in the UK – how and where does humanity sit within the rise of death tech? As tech in the latter moves further away from the personal, the emotional and the rituals surrounding death, as a society do we still need to meaning in the form of rituals? How we can create new spaces within our society that honour the dead, protects ourselves as we forge a more positive relationship with death.
There’s plenty to say, and do on this. The year is going to be busy.
