Jo Napthine, Celebrant

Hello, my name is Jo, and I am a fully qualified independent celebrant.

As your celebrant, I will guide and support you in creating a ceremony that truly reflects the life, values and personality of your loved one.

Like many people who are drawn to this work, my own experiences of loss and grief have shaped who I am and how I meet others. They have given me a deep respect for the courage it takes to say goodbye, and a clear understanding of the care required when supporting families at such a vulnerable time.

I am friendly and approachable, dependable and reliable. I am an empathetic listener, and I understand the weight of meeting you at your most fragile. I will walk alongside you through this overwhelming time, offering gentle guidance and steady support, so that together we can honour both your loved one’s life and their death.

I am a creative and intuitive celebrant, full of ideas about what is possible. Whether you are seeking something traditional or more alternative, I will help you create a ceremony that feels right for you, personal, meaningful and unhurried.

At the heart of my work is the belief that a funeral, while a time of grief and remembrance, can also hold moments of warmth, celebration and even quiet joy. Families often tell me that I have helped turn a very sad occasion into something beautiful and deeply special.

Music is a huge part of my life, and music and funerals are inextricably linked. As a professional singer, I am sometimes asked to sing during ceremonies, which is always an honour. Whether classical, folk or popular music, I can transform a loved one’s favourite song into something deeply moving and entirely unique.

A little about me

Before becoming a celebrant, I spent over twenty years working as a singer and actress in the West End. Becoming a celebrant felt like a natural calling, a way to bring together storytelling, presence, creativity and care.

I am a mum to three wonderful boys. I love Earl Grey tea, Marmite, Côtes du Rhône, Arsenal, Formula One and long family walks, not necessarily in that order.

If you would like to have a chat, simply let Debbie know and she will be happy to connect us.

Eleanor MacFarlane

True Words celebrant

Eleanor has had a varied career in the arts and education. Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, she came to London as a classical music student. Years later, richer in a family, she finds herself still here. Along the way she retrained as an artist, setting up a popup, theViewergallery, which showed moving image and installations in all sorts of places such as libraries and a garden shed. She has been a culture writer, writing reviews and articles about books, music and exhibitions under the name theGlamorousAnorak, and writes fiction and poetry. She has tutored and mentored in art. Eleanor has had long term day jobs in education and student support as a mental health mentor and academic tutor, having also studied psychology.

Discovering the funeral industry and the work of a celebrant was quite a revelation. What could be more meaningful writing, more important events, than commemorating life and acknowledging love? Saying goodbye is fundamentally human and can be beautiful.

Eleanor brings her background in the arts and education, and a love of words into celebrancy, and will reflect your hopes and wishes, your stories and beliefs into a ceremony to remember and treasure.

Robin Whitemore

Robin believes everyone deserves the best funeral for them and works with you to create just that. As a fully trained celebrant he will support you and your family to put together a dignified, beautiful send-off that portrays the essence of the person who has died and recognises the impact they have had on everyone who knew them.

As a visual artist he is a highly skilled facilitator for groups of people to create meaningful events and spectacles. His years of experience confirms his belief that everyone, no matter what their age or ability, has something valuable to contribute. From personal experience he understands the value of being involved in the creative planning for a funeral service and how this greatly assists the grieving process.

Robin is an advocate for taking the funeral beyond the walls of a traditional space, albeit in a community hall, a pub, in your garden or in your home. These spaces help you create a special ceremony that truly reflects the person you have lost. Robin's creative, hands on approach to his work leads to truly unique, empowering and engaging farewells.
